What is fossil starfish?
A fossil starfish is the preserved remains of an ancient starfish (or sea star), an ancient marine invertebrate from the class Asteroidea, that has been turned into stone over millions of years through the fossilization process. These fossils are found in marine sedimentary rocks and provide valuable data on the evolution, anatomy, and ancient ecosystems of these creatures, which first appeared during the Ordovician period, over 450 million years ago.
